The Paris Motor Show fires up this week and it begins the 2014-2015 auto show season. I showed a couple of cars that will make their public introduction in Paris a couple of weeks ago but there is more coming. One of these is the 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport. It is the replacement for the LR2 as their entry level model.
The Disco Sport runs on the same platform as the Evoque including the same 2 liter engine and 9-speed automatic transmission. The styling is based off of the Discovery Concept we saw in New York back in April. It also has upgraded technology including a new headunit and navigation to make it more competitive with it’s competitors, the Audi Q5 and BMW X3. The Discovery Sport goes on sale in the spring for just under $39,000.
Also showing it’s face this weekend is the new Mercedes-AMG C63. The C63 sees improvements in the looks and performance over the normal C-class. Starting with the looks, the C63 adds revised front fascia, a rear diffuser, different wheels and a more performance oriented interior with high performance seats, carbon fiber trim, and a flat bottomed steering wheel.
More importantly though the C63 sees an all new engine. They’ve nestled the same 4 liter twin-turbo V8 in the AMG GT between the fenders producing 469 horsepower in the base trim, and 503 if you opt for the S trim, which also rolls in an electric limited slip differential for slightly better handling. Both versions will have AMG’s 7 speed automatic transmissions. The C63 goes on sale in March with pricing still to be announced.
Also grabbing headlines is a mystery Lamborghini. They’ve released an outline of the silhouette of this new car but it’s still leaving people clueless. there is speculation that it will be called the Asterion and that it is a hybrid. Still no idea where it will sit in Lambo’s line up or who it will compete with.
Also coming to Paris are convertible versions of the BMW 2-series and Audi TT. Porsche is said to also bring the new 911 GT3 RS. Stay tuned to the redline for more details on this years Paris Auto Show.
