Yang Zhang at Cancun

Yang Zhang, Social Chair

Yang Zhang is a current Senior at Fossil Ridge High School. Although she is constantly trying new things, Zhang fell in love with Journalism quickly. Zhang feels the most comfortable in the journalism room. In her fourth and last year in journalism,  Zhang wants to work on writing more articles then she did last year and improving her grammar.

Five years ago, she moved with her family from China to Colorado. The transition was difficult at times, like when she was counting down the hours before her father made it to Colorado. She had not seen him in years, and remembers looking up at the clock eagerly every minute. “Family and friends mean the most,” says Zhang. Her parents inspire her to keep working hard.

If you shuffled her playlist, you would find a mix of daycore and nightcore music and some remixes.

She does not discriminate when it comes to her favorite subjects in school, instead, she appreciates all of the learning opportunities Fossil offers. However, if she had to pick one, journalism would be her favorite. A dedicated participant in Knowledge Bowl, she loves the competition aspect of the team as well as the family she found there.

Zhang's hobbies are studying, writing research papers, and fish keeping. when taking about fish keeping and aqua scaping Zhang got very excited, " I have fourteen of them, nine comet goldfish and a ryukin goldfish, along with two zebra danios and 2 olive nerite snails. "  Other than those hobbies, Zhang also likes playing sports such as basketball, flag football and swimming.

Dedicated to her studies, in the future  Zhang wants to dual major in computer science, preferably cybersecurity, and aqua science, she also wants to minor in aerospace engineering, arts, and journalism.
