Do you dream of becoming a master chef, designing the latest clothes to be featured at fashion week, or modeling the inside of your first home? Do you want to learn valuable life skills such as cooking, designing, and managing along with serviceable leadership instruction? You may want to consider joining Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).
FCCLA is a nationwide non profit organization that promotes personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer sciences education. The FCCLA chapter at Fossil focuses on preparing students for future career opportunities, giving back to the community, and training students how to be effective leaders. Some of FCCLA’s most recent projects were creating fleece blankets for people in need and producing dog toys for underprivileged pets in the area.
Some areas in FCCLA that students can specialize in are fashion design, interior design, culinary arts, financial management, and community outreach. There are state and national level competitions where students can create projects to compete against other chapters of FCCLA. Many scholarship opportunities are available for college bound FCCLA members.
Any student that has completed a family and consumer sciences course at Fossil is eligible to join FCCLA. FCCLA meets every third Thursday of each month at A and B lunch in the family and consumer sciences wing. For more information contact the FCCLA adviser, Angela Rota, at [email protected].
