With the stress of finals week right around the corner it is time for Fossil Ridge High School students to start managing their time effectively. Cramming for a test the night before only adds to the headache that is finals week. Since the finals schedule this year has changed and students will be taking all their finals in two days, it is best not to save all that studying for the night before. That’s why FRHS holds the cocoa cram every year.
However, this year, a group of clubs called the academic council consisting of some of the biggest clubs here at Fossil such as NHS, SNHS, key club and Mu Alpha Theta is running it instead of Student Council. The change was made because all of these clubs deal with service and academics. Since Coca cram is to assist students in preparing for test it was determined that these groups should be in charge of running it. They have been working at it for over a month and have been able to pull together an amazing event in just four meetings.
Coca Cram will be held on Tuesday December 8 from 3 to 5 p.m. Additional changes to expect will be lots of snacks and hot chocolate. Student tutors will be able to help in the commons and several classrooms around the school with have different teachers to answer questions that students might have. There are posters up in the commons so everyone can see what teachers can be found where.
Some recommended tips before students show up for coca cram are to know which subjects they want help in specifically. It is also recommended that students know whether they will want help from teachers or students, and remember they aren’t actually teaching so be sure to have specific areas in mind of what questions and areas need more work.
There will also be a stress management and stress awareness lesson that is being held in the Roundhouse during coca cram. It will be led by our counselors here at FRHS and is expected to last about 20 to 30 minutes.
Arti Pandey is president of Key Club and has put in a lot of time and effort into making this event happen. “I definitely want to make it more of an experience this year” said Pandey about the event. All students are encouraged to come and join in the fun and learning at this year’s coca cram and help make it an event to remember.
