Humans of Fossil: Madeline McKinnon

Madeline McKinnon, a junior at Fossil Ridge High School, transferred to fossil from Liberty Common School this year.  After going to Liberty from kindergarten through sophomore year, she has seen many different styles used in both schools.  As a transfer student, it has taken McKinnon a lot of adjusting to get used to the different culture of FRHS.  “Liberty is way more rigorous, and it doesn’t really let you have time for other extracurricular activities.  Fossil is way more fun and allows a lot more time for activities”  said McKinnon.  She has loved the learning environment and culture that is present in all of the programs and activities at FRHS.  If she had the choice to go back to Liberty, she wouldn’t want to go back because she would rather stay at fossil and be apart of all the activities and fun.

At school, McKinnon is very involved in the french program.  Before she came to FRHS, she was able to begin learning a language at her old school for a long time.  She has noticed a big change in the language department at both schools.  At Fossil, the language department is fun but still instructive and a good learning environment.  “Right now my favorite class at school is French because I love learning French and I love my teacher.  I especially love to sing in french” said McKinnon.

After high school, McKinnon wants to attend BYU.  At BYU she wants to go into the Child Development program so she can become an elementary school teacher.   She wants to go to BYU because, “there’s a wholesome environment, in learning and meeting other students. There’s also low tuition, a lot of diversity, and many extracurricular activities. And I’m also Mormon, so that’s fun.”  After she graduates from BYU and becomes a teacher, she wants to be a stay at home mom and raise her kids.

At home she lives with her mom, dad, and 3 siblings.  As the oldest, she loves to help out her siblings with what she already knows.  “My favorite thing to do with family is play games and go on road trips.  My favorite place is BYU so I love to go there with my family” said McKinnon.

If she could give freshman any advice she would say that, “Do not procrastinate. It’s literally impossible not to do it, but try your best.  And study for finals and tests, and make sure to get help from the teachers if you need it.  It will pay off if you work hard”.

This is a good article and I like what it says. You give a good overview of Madeline’s life and her experiences at Fossil thus far. However, there are a few minor capitalization issues, among some others. Make sure to proofread your work, especially before it’s published. Otherwise, great job!
