Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 Jeffco Stadium was crowded with 33 schools’ track teams for the Pomona Invitational. This meet is considered the second most elite track meet of the year, next to state and Fossil Ridge High School competed. Overall the girls placed eighth with 41 points and the boys placed twenty-fourth with 8 points.

Blake Hubert was the only male athlete from Fossil that placed in the top five for his event, the 3200m run. He placed third with a time of 9:52.11.

The girls made more appearances in their events. For the running events, Destiny Butler placed fifth in the 300m hurdles with a time of 46.71. The 4x800m girls relay; consisting of Ellie Black, Julia Ross, Billie Fogarty, and Anya Tkachenko, was the only Sabercat relay team to place in the top five for this meet. They placed fourth with a time of 10:25.65.

Freshman, Olivia Rankin continued to showcase her impressive skills in the high jump. She placed fifth overall, clearing a height of 5-00.00. Rankin has placed in the top five for high jump in every meet that she has competed in so far this year and she is a contender for making a statement for Fossil in the state meet.

Senior, Morgan Stewart is also continuing to stand out in the track meets this year. She placed second in the discus throw with a distance of 143-02.00 as well as placed fourth in the shot put with a distance of 37-03.50. Stewart hopes to continue having success and finish her high school career with making a statement for Fossil track at state.

The team will travel to Echo Park Stadium on Thursday, April 19 to compete in a meet hosted by Legacy High School. Wish a runner, jumper, or thrower luck as they get ready for their meet.
