It is safe to say that the Fort Collins area is not the mecca of hockey, however, over the past few years we have seen a few very special, and very talented, players such as Bryan Lockner and Garrett Devine walking the halls of Fossil Ridge. Senior Cameron Duncan has played with both Lockner and Devine, and currently plays for one of the top tier club programs in the state of Colorado. Duncan, being one of only a few upperclassmen on both his club team and his high school team, leads by his actions and words both on and off the rink.

Duncan has been playing with Fossil Ridge for three out of his four years as a SaberCat, along with his club team the Roughriders AAA for the last two years. “The thing that I enjoy the most about playing high school hockey is being able to play with my friends every single day at the rink and hangout with them on the road trips we take.”

The SaberCats play in the High Plains League, which over fifteen of Colorado’s premier high school hockey programs compete in. Some of those teams include, Cherry Creek High School (HS), Arapahoe HS, Chaparral HS, Fort Collins HS, Denver East HS, and Ralston Valley HS. Each of those institutions along with Fossil Ridge have stellar athletic programs; the SaberCats’ Head Coach, Mark Devine, has been coaching for a handful of years and knows what it takes to successfully lead a program against such talented competitors.

Although hockey isn’t the most popular sport offered at Fossil Ridge, that doesn’t mean that these boys deserve less recognition. Duncan, along with the rest of the team, have two more games this season. The boys next game is away against Rock Canyon High School on Friday, May 4, at 7:15 P.M. Their last game of the season is at EPIC on Sunday, May 6, at 3:45 P.M. against Mountain Militia. Come out and support the boys on May 6, and follow @frhssportsnews on Twitter for more updates on all-things Fossil athletics.
