Wednesday, December 5, the Fossil Ridge Wrestling team began their 2018 season with a dual meet at Rocky Mountain High School. The night ended with the Lobos taking down the Sabercats 50-15.

As it was merely one night, the team looks forwards to the rest of their season. Beginning duals are treated like a starting point where they are “correcting mistakes and building for regionals and state”, says head coach Brian Killion. The team is intent on working hard to reach these goals as the season progresses.

A highlight of the evening eagerly identified by Killion was Cody Ginther, the standout wrestler to watch this season. According to Killion, he’s “wrestling awesome right now” with a starting weight of 145 pounds. As a sophomore, he was one of the few wrestlers of the night to win by a fall, adding 6 points to the team score. Mason Maestas and Marshall Schoot both won their individual matches. Maestas won by a fall while Scott, a senior, won by decision.

Although a difficult night for the team, they did not give up in spirit. Each match was met with the same passion and cheering as the first one. From those on the bench to those in the stands, the team’s love for the sport was supported.
