5th ranked Lady Sabercats cruise past Impalas
Senior Lauren Kleine attempts her 2nd of 2 free throws against Poudre
This past Friday, the Fossil Ridge High School girls’ basketball team beat Poudre High School 71-29 the first game of a girls and boys double header at Fossil. The varsity girls’ basketball team is currently ranked 5th in the CHSSA 5A state rankings.
Fossil looked to set the tone early, starting off in a full court press. After a couple of turnovers and missed shots to start, Kaysen Hobbs would give the Sabercats the first points of the game as she knocked down 1 out of 2 free throws. Sophie Hadad would follow with a baseline layup and on the following possession a 3-pointer from the left wing. Poudre would remain scoreless until 1:20 left in the 1st quarter when Brooke Bohlender cashed in a 3-pointer. The quarter ended with Fossil on top, 15-6.
The Sabercats started the 2nd quarter the same way, instituting a full court press. A turnover was committed by the Impalas which led to a Hadad 3-pointer, which was then followed by another turnover, leading to a layup by Davin Tonn. A layup and two made free throws by Libby Couture of the Impalas would bring the score to 32-10. Halftime would soon approach and the score would be 35-12.

Much of the same would follow after halftime, with varsity reserves and junior varsity suitors getting an opportunity to play to finish the game. Fossil eventually would take the win 71-29, putting their record at 12-1 while 4-0 in league play. Poudre’s record would fall to 3-12 with their league play record going to 1-4 on the year.
