Sabercat soccer lost both of their  Front Range League cross-over matchups against top five opponents from the southern division.

The week started with a home matchup against the No. 4 Broomfield Eagles.

The contest started off rocky, as Broomfield scored within the first five minutes of the game. Fossil bounced back with continued pressure, leading to an incredible solo effort goal from striker Sterling Bellendir. The teams headed into halftime tied with a single goal a piece.

The second half was filled with much less offense, as both teams didn’t want to give up any major chances. As a result, neither team added a goal during those forty minutes. Things shifted during overtime, as the teams began to open back up and play more aggressive, resulting in Broomfield scoring on a corner kick opportunity to knock off the Sabercats 2-1 in a defensive war of attrition.

The road didn’t get any easier, as Fossil Ridge traveled to play the No 2. Legacy Lightning. This game was less balanced than the first, as the Lightning put up one goal in the first half while the Sabercats scored none. The second half had the exact same result, with Legacy scoring one and Fossil scoring none, as Fossil Ridge lost 2-0.

Despite the losses, these matchups are good tests to prepare the Sabercats for the playoffs and the tougher competition. Their first playoff game will be at home next Wednesday, October 26 with an opponent to be determined.
