N-O-T is a new group that is coming to Fossil Ridge High School, which stands for Not on Tobacco. Run by Mrs. Alvarado, the overall goal for the group is cleaner air in Colorado, starting with helping high school students to stop smoking. The first meeting will be on Tuesday Feb. 26 in the media center conference room. The shades will be shut so nobody can look inside. The group will try to meet once a week for eight to ten weeks. “I tried to do it last semester but I didn’t get a lot of participants,” said Alvarado. The group needs at least four or five people minimum to start.
FRHS received a grant from the American Lung Association which they can spend on incentives, food, and prizes to have at the meetings. “I want them to want to quit. It’s not something where I get referrals, it’s totally voluntary,” said Alvarado. “It’s really putting this opportunity into their hands and then we’ll support them.”
If anyone wants more information on N-O-T, come to the informational meeting on the 26nd or contact Mrs. Alvarado with any questions.
