Senior Nicole Thompson

This is going to be the first year that the girls will have their own golf team representing Fossil Ridge High School. Senior Nicole Thompson has been playing for the Fort Collins High School golf team for all three previous years. “I’m anxious to be on a team representing my own high school and meeting new girls.”

Thompson has made varsity every year and has been the team captain for two. She comes from a family that keeps golf in their hearts. The Thompson household is known for very talented golfers. Nicole and her older sister, Jocelyn, were both taught golf at the age of seven at Estes Park. Thompson said, “We have a cabin in Estes and they are big on golf, so we just took lessons when we went up there.”

Nicole Thompson has raw talent and it runs in her family. Jocelyn got an outstanding scholarship to the University of Northern Colorado because of her golfing career. Nicole will not pursue golf in college but she said, “I just want this year to be my best and I’m going to try my hardest to do so.”

Nicole Thompson practices year round for golf, when the greens are ready, she goes golfing every day for practice, but when they aren’t she has something else in mind. Thompson has a golf simulator, whenever she feels the need to practice in all different seasons it is just a staircase away. The simulator is a giant screen, when hit by Thompsons drive the simulator ball keeps going on the screen as the real one hits the ground on impact.

With every stroke, Thompson tries one hundred percent showing how much she cares for her sport. “I always knew I was going to be varsity, just because there are a few girls who actually play like I do” said Thompson.

Thompson as the lead golfer and team captain FRHS will be a runner for state and winners of other regular season matches. Nicole Thompson understands what is needed to be done for her team. As tryouts end she goes around introducing herself to the newest members of the team.

Thompson said, “Golf has given me a lot of life skills; it teaches me etiquette and it gives me patience. With patience it helps me work better with my team and to compete nicely.”
