Poudre School District has announced that Dr. Sandra Smyser will serve as the new superintendent, replacing Dr. Nancy Wright, who served as the interim PSD superintendent since Dr. Jerry Wilson resigned last summer. The vote to hire Smyser was 4-2. The later vote to support her as the superintendent was unanimous.
Smyser has been the superintendent of Eagle County School District since 2008. Before serving in Eagle, she was interim superintendent of Steamboat Springs School District, superintendent of Las Virgenes Unified School District in California, Superintendent of Carpinteria Unified School District in California, and superintendent and chief business official for Solvang Elementary School District in California.
Smyser has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in special education and elementary education from the University of Maryland. She also has a Masters of Arts degree in education and Spanish from the University of South Carolina and a Ph.D. in special education from the University of California, Riverside.
