As an aspiring writer and a poet on long summer days, I’m excited to experience the upcoming opportunity for writers. April, after all, is National Poetry Month and is a great chance for writers of all ages and skills to continue to do what they love and share it with their peers.
Here at FRHS, National Poetry Month was celebrated through the event Poem in Your Pocket, which was in the media center during both A and B lunches on April 18.
Junior Lucia Morales, though she did not attend the whole session this year, is a frequent attendee of Poem in Your Pocket and an avid poet. She reads, writes, and breathes poetry, insisting that poetry “gives an opportunity to tell your own story or tell what you’re feeling. It portrays how you see the world.” She sees Poem in your Pocket as a great outlet for everyone participating. “If you’re going through something, you can let it out in front of everyone. No one judges you.” Morales encourages everyone to write as much as they can.
If you’re the shy type, or simply missed Poem in Your Pocket for whatever reason, there’s still something for you. Mr. Wright is still accepting poetry for the month; just drop your poetry into Mr. Wright’s drop box.
