It’s that time of year again, when Performing Arts Center and at the Art Hall are filled with the sounds of rowdy Thespians preparing for the fall play. This year, Fossil Ridge High School’s theatre department has chosen the play, Metamorphoses, to be performed in November.
Metamorphoses is a tale of miniature stories all rotating around the concept of change. The ideas of love, obstacles, and basic human nature collide together to create the concept of transformation. It takes place in an ancient Greek era where the gods and goddesses are muddling with the lives of mortals.
The director, english instructor Ms. DeFelice, chose the play because it,”-promises to be a challenge, in a good way, for our theatre department.” The play is relevant to any time period and also has an ensemble cast with multiple roles. Another new twist is that there’s a swiming pool involved, and a giant one at that. The set crew has already begun building it.
The play will be held in the black box this year instead of the stage, the all black room in the Art Hall. “It gives a more intimate setting, close up to the actors. I think it’ll definitely be a new, but good experience,” said Mrs. DeFelice. FRHS’s drama department is holding tryouts the week of Sept. 16th for anyone interested in auditioning. Tryouts are Tuesday Sept. 17th and Wednesday Sept. 18th in the roundhouse, and call backs will be Thursday.
