Fossil Ridge High School swimmer and senior Sammie Guay, finalized the signing process with West Virginia University.
Guay has been swimming since she was seven years old. “It was always just a dream that I worked for every day,” said Guay of swimming at the college level. Guay has been part of the FRHS swim team throughout high school as well as on the Fort Collins club team, winning state in the 200 meter IM her freshman year.
With several offers from schools like University of Denver and University of New Mexico, Guay settled on West Virginia University but it was no easy decision. Offering a 40% athletic and 30% academic scholarship, WVU, “had the best energy,” said Guay. “I felt most at home with the team and the coaches were great.”
“Swimming has allowed me to go out of state to a great school,” Guay said. “I’m very blessed to have the opportunity I have because I signed.”
Although adjusting to college life is stressful enough for some students, Guay doesn’t believe swimming at the college level during her freshman year will be overwhelming. “I think it will help me stay focused and keep my priorities straight,” said Guay. “Swimming teaches you about hard work which will help me in my future career.”
Guay is working towards improving her swimming throughout college in hopes that she will qualify for the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
