Sunflowers and Sundresses: Bling bananza

Sunflowers and Sundresses: Bling bananza

S&S jewelry

We are back for second semester, and like most of my classmates I am feeling pretty drab. Frankly, it is hard to drag myself out of bed in this freezing weather and stay in a positive mood going through my daily tasks. I find that it is the little things that matter, like a little bling. Adding that sparkling arm candy or a big bold necklace tends to bring the glam and shine in not only your look, but your attitude.

Statement necklaces are everywhere lately. They are bold, bright and glamorous; they add that little something outfits are generally lacking. It can be easy to be terrified of something so large, but it is even easier to make them work for your outfit.  Statement necklaces under the collars of button ups make the over-the-top accessory simple and classic. Another way to keep that beautiful necklace subtle is pairing it with a similar colored sweater. A simple royal blue sweater with a statement necklace with an accent of blue stones will blend in just enough to feel comfortable.

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend but arm candy is a girl’s close second. This year, the heavier your wrist is, the more dazzling you seem to be. The only rule to arm candy is that all the pieces need to be placed with purpose. For example, add thick and thin bands, some with glitter and some without, but keep the metals all the same. Or mix your metals but have each bracelet have variations of sparkle. The most delicious arm candy, the largest piece, should be a watch. I love watches to include added glam with some sparkle (sparkle equals joy).  The secret to arm candy is that the look should appear thrown together, but in a way that seems to make sense.

In the past couple of years, ears seem to be getting more and more glammed up. Piercings seem to be everywhere on the beautiful ears of the world. The key to avoiding looking like a stapler attacked you is simplicity. Keep it simple! Small yet gorgeous stud earrings are the most stunning all together. Keep the line of four earrings as all sparkling studs prevents it from being way too overwhelming. Plain ear cuffs are a great way to add some glamour to the overall look.

Rings. Oh my precious rings. At all times I am wearing at least two of them. That is the beauty of rings, they are becoming more and more stackable and it is more acceptable to wear multiple. Simple rings with gorgeous designs are a personal favorite. With simple rings, you can wear multiple without getting tired fingers, like Kim Kardashian (have you seen that rock?).  Stackable rings are thin small rings that you can layer on your fingers just like bracelets, finger candy if you will. Midi-rings are a new way to perk up your hands as well. The usually thin bands are always very basic and generally only have a small alteration from a basic band. They are hard to get used to at first, but the unique yet classy appearance pays off.

Stay beautiful, sunflowers.
