A pop of culture: Justin Bieber in jail

This past Thursday is not a day that Justin Bieber will like remembering. Near 4 a.m., Bieber and close friend and R&B singer Khalil Amir Sharieff were arrested on a residential street in Miami. Later on, the two 19-year-olds were charged with DUIs.

“He told police he drank, smoked pot, took prescription medication before driving” Miami Chief of Police, Raymond Martinez said, speaking of Bieber. Not only this, but it seems the pop star was also charged with driving with an expired license and resistance of arrest.

The police caught on to the two illegal teenagers after seeing them drag racing their own cars (Bieber in a yellow Lamborghini, and Sharieff in a red Ferrari)  down a suburban Miami street. According to the arrest report, Bieber was extremely uncooperative and rude to the police officers. Apparently there were also two black SUVs stationed at the entrances to the street, allowing the teens to drag race their cars up and down.

After several choice words aimed at the officers and failing a sobriety test, Bieber was sent to a Miami jail. Later Thursday afternoon, Bieber left on a $2,500 bail.

CNN reports, “He strutted out of the jail dressed in black, with a baggy hoodie covering his head. His pants appeared to be baggy leather. Bieber briefly sat on top of a black Cadillac Escalade, where he waved to screaming fans, before he was chauffeured away.” and later on at his bail hearing, the singer reportedly had a rude attitude and “stood silently with his lips sometimes pursed.”

Am I the only one who isn’t surprised at his “sudden” arrest? To me this isn’t sudden at all; it’s been coming on the horizon for months. Bieber’s 2013 year was shaky, and he’s not off to a great start this year either. Let’s take a look into his past.

January 2013- Bieber is photographed holding what was later to be identified as marijuana.

March 2013- After drama with going around shirtless in London, he reportedly showed up 2 hours late to a concert at London’s O2 Arena. After that he ended up in the hospital in the English capital, and when he was released from the hospital later that week, the turbulence continued when he threatened and tried to attack a member of the paparazzi waiting outside the medical center.

April 2013- The famous Anne Frank House in Amsterdam received a very publicized visit from Bieber. Reportedly he had made a comment about how he hoped Anne Frank would have been a fan of his, which was received as rude and insensitive globally.

July 2013- A video of the singer leaked that seemed to capture the singer relieving himself into a janitorial bucket, and then spraying a picture of former president Bill Clinton with a spray bottle while referencing his feelings towards the presidents with expletives.

October 2013- A photo of Bieber being carried up the Great Wall of China by his bodyguards gained popularity for being “pathetic.”

November 2013- Bieber was reportedly seen leaving a brothel in Brazil, and later on was accused of having sexual relations with a Brazilian prostitute.

January 2014- On January 14th, 2014, police swarmed the pop stars mansion on an account of vandalizing a neighbor’s house with eggs. Later a friend of Bieber’s was arrested for a charge of drug possession and the singer’s cell phone was taken in the investigation.

And here we are still in January, and Justin Bieber is facing a jail sentence. The fresh faced singer of “Baby,” is here no more, and has become a lost-cause-celebrity similar to the kinds of Amanda Bynes, and Lindsay Lohan. Nobody knew he’d go off the deep end like this but wouldn’t you? He’s been getting everything he wanted since the moment his singing videos went viral on YouTube. With a surplus fan base, and millions upon millions of dollars, he would’ve hit bottom sometime. But jail? I would have never thought.

But hey, Never Say Never.
