As we drive into the middle of the first quarter at Fossil Ridge High School, the golf team is approaching the end of their season. The official season is finished, Regionals happened on Monday, September 14th, and the state competition is coming up on the 29th and the 30th of September in Colorado Springs.
The boys team, consisting of 13 players in both the Junior Varsity (JV) and Varsity teams, took four of their players: Josh Caridi, Noah Brownell, Matt Atkins and Cam Lampe to Regionals at Meadow Hills in Denver to try and qualify to represent Fossil in the State meet. At the close of Regional play, Caridi and Brownell both qualified. As for individual results, Caridi took 3rd, shooting a score of 82 and Brownell took 13th, scoring 85. Overall, Fossil was 6th out of 14 total teams.
The team looked bright this year, even though Monarch High School won the conference meet this year, the team held their ground and finished mid-pack. When asked for four words that described the season, Coach Jamie Menefee responded, “Promising, fun, rewarding and hopeful,”.
As the season ties up, the state qualifiers, Caridi and Brownell, look ahead to their final meet in Colorado Springs at the Colorado Springs Country Club.
