Released March 17 / Sleeping With Sirens / Epitaph
Rating: 3/5 stars
After months of build-up, one of the most popular bands of the Altpress music scene Sleeping With Sirens released their third studio album Madness.
When you listen to Madness, you get a dash of post-hardcore, a sprinkle of acoustic, with a influence of modern pop music. This album opens with a kick through a door- “Kick Me” is an anthem and sounds the most like the 2011 version of the band. Then there is “Save Me A Spark” which gives you the impression that lead singer Kellin Quinn is tapping his foot while he waves his hands around wearing all white. This album is very reminiscent of their genius acoustic EP, “If You Were a Movie, This Would Be Your Soundtrack.” This album literally (not used lightly) has dips or breaks in the difference in songs. It goes from head-banging to hand swaying real quick. It feels like you are listening to two different albums that accidently got mashed into the 2015 release.
After switching from Rise Records, to becoming independent, then signing to Epitaph Records, people were expecting something big and revolutionary- that simply didn’t happen. This album, to say the least is typical of Sleeping With Sirens. It’s not terrible or spectacular, it’s likeable, with “Gold” and “Fly” stand out songs.
