The Thursday, April 30 matchup between the Fairview Knights and the Fossil Ridge Sabercats ended up having homeruns, rain delays and a 0-15 rout that Sabercat fans weren’t hoping for.
The Fairview Knights came into the game 14-2 and a force to be reckoned with in the Front Range Conference. Senior Mitch Simmons got the start on the mound for Fossil against one of the most potent hitting teams in the State.
From the opening pitch the competition was definitely a struggle for the Cats. Fairview pitcher Stone Streeter threw a 1 hitter in the 15-0 win. Fairview, as a team, hit .429 and Junior Mike Tyse contributed a deep shot to center early on against Sabercat pitcher Mitch Simmons, after which, the Knights didn’t look back.
Fossil moved to 8-10 on the year and are looking to make a late season push for the post season. Ranked 6th in the Front Range Conference, the playoffs are definitely still an option, but the team will need to make a strong statement in a matchup Saturday, May 2 against Boulder.
