Friday night Fossil Ridge fell short to city rival, Fort Collins 10-3. It was a sloppy game for the Sabercats, with penalties in almost every series, four high snaps over the quarterback’s head, and a couple interceptions.
Fossil was coming off of an impressive 33-7 against Boulder, and Collins was coming off of a rough loss to Poudre.
FRHS couldn’t capitalize despite some Fort Collins key injuries. Their starting quarterback and tight end were both out of the game due to serious injuries. The odds were against the Lambkins, but they pulled out a scrappy win.
The first quarter was slow, but the Sabercats got on the score board with an impressive 48-yard field goal by Evan Bergerson.
With 5:47 left in the third quarter, FCHS got into the end zone from the 1-yard line. The Lambkin’s kicker hit a field goal at the start of the fourth quarter making it 10-3.
Fossil didn’t give up at the end and had a solid last drive. The Sabercats got down the field and gave Collins a scare with an accurately thrown, but unsuccessful Hail Mary.
In an interview during Tuesday’s practice with the Sabercat’s defensive coordinator Coach Major, it was said that “It’s good that we are playing Collins early. If we win or lose, it will fuel us and motivate us for the rest of the season.”
On Thursday both JV and C-team played FCHS. C-team pulled out a solid victory winning 40-6, and JV had a close game, losing 13-6.
Varsity (1-1) will be hosting Mountain Range next Friday.
