It’s the time of year where the hallways are buzzing with seniors discussing what colleges they are applying to, or where they have gotten into. Most don’t quite have the relief of knowing where they will be ending up quite yet, but for a lot, that sense of relief is not far off. On the other hand, college just isn’t for everyone. Senior, Adrian Pullaro, has his plan figured out, but it does not include college.
Pullaro is in a delayed entry program, meaning that he in enlisted in the Marines and has his departure date set. “I’ve never had a strong pull to college; in my opinion, I am meant to do something else,” he stated. “I’ve always been good at pushing myself and others and I know that the Marines would be a good fit for that mentality.”
Adrian is in a local program called “The Pool” where enlistees meet every Thursday and certain Saturdays to train and learn about the Marine Corps. They go through extraneous physical testing and training, as well as education. This program was established to make the transition from their regular lives to boot camp run more smoothly.
Adrian is described by others as charismatic, personable, and a hard worker. He has always done things to challenge himself and loves adrenaline rushes. In his book, this will truly be the ultimate rush.
Pullaro intends on serving anywhere from 8-12 years, and is considering getting a college degree after his service. When asked why he chose the Marines and not other branches, he gave a very straight forward response: “I don’t settle for anything less than the best, so the Marines was really the only option.”
He is planning on continuing to attend The Pool workouts until his shipment date, June 27th 2016. Pullaro will go to boot camp in San Diego and will be stationed at Camp Pendelton.
