Journalism Day is a journalism convention that happens yearly, and is held at the Lowry Student Center. It has been in effect since 2001. It holds many opportunities for people interested in news, yearbook, and video. This year, they added many aspects of social media. The main focus this year was implementing Snapchat into the newspaper to add in a media that is frequently used by the student body, and incorporates an interactive aspect to journalism in high schools.

All of the sessions we split into had a variety of aspects in the three main forms of Journalism. The sessions were taught by Journalism teachers, professionals, and even a group of students. All groups of people were quite knowledgeable on what they were teaching and were very professional with their presentations.

Many students who went found it to be a very valuable experience. Greenley Slater, who is on staff for the newspaper, said, “We learn a lot of helpful tips about journalism and what we can do to make every aspect better.” She really enjoyed going to J-Day for the second year in a row, she enjoyed both the sessions and all the people who went.
