Car”tune” into Aubrey Kruse: Cartoonist
Fossil Ridge High School senior Aubrey Kruse has a unique passion: she has taken up cartooning. Kruse first developed an interest for the art in the third grade when she bought a intro to cartooning book and began copying the artwork in the book. By reading cartoons in Sunday’s paper and doodling, her interest later evolved into the creation and invention of her own stories and characters. Cartooning is not just a passion but something she hopes to do professionally in the future, on the side at first and then, as it grows, to create a company and be self directed in creating cartoons for a paper.
She mainly loves the freedom of cartooning, “I create my own boundaries, I am the creator of my stories” said Kruse. Her talent and passion continues to develop the more she does it. “I just see where my pen takes me, I never really plan out what I’m going to draw. I let it create itself” said Kruse.
Since moving from Indiana last year, Kruse has gotten involved in FRHS by reaching out to Ridge TV and Etched in Stone. The cartoons that she creates are typically fiction based and oftentimes picture current events, but she tries to stay away from controversial topics. Etched in Stone will begin featuring her work, so be sure to check out the website to see her cartoons. Kruse’s goal is to “reach out to the entire school and put a smile on somebody’s face… I love the way I can make people smile with something I drew from my imagination” said Kruse.
