Kind? Outgoing? Focused? Optimistic? These are all words that can describe Amrita Nag. Rita was born in Singapore and moved to Tucson, Arizona at the age of 3, and finally to Fort Collins after third grade. “I think I’ve had a pretty incredible childhood. There’s really nothing to complain about. I’ve been very blessed. I remember bits and pieces of all the places I have lived and the people I have known over all these years” said Nag.
The Nag family consists of Amrita’s mother, father, and younger brother Aritra, an eighth grader at Kinard Middle School. “Our whole family is pretty tight-knit. We joke a lot and have a great time with each other for the most part. But there are fights I have with my brother, and sometimes disagreements with my parents” said Nag.
One of the most memorable and valued experiences that she has was going on an 8th grade Global Leadership trip to Costa Rica. “The trip only lasted 7 days but the memories will be with me for the rest of my life. The friends, teachers, the uniqueness of Costa Rica, the activities, the volunteer work- these memories are really precious.”
School is a big part of Nag’s life. “Overall, I’d say I’ve had a great high school experience. A lot of people say that they hate school and are so ready to get out of it, but I genuinely believe that you get what you put into it. Even though classes have been hard…” said Nag. She also commented that, while high school isn’t easy, she thinks that being surrounded by the good people and the amount of effort she puts in to being involved and reaching out, has made her time here at FRHS pretty positive and memorable.
Everyone says that their best friends are “the best” but Nag strongly believes that she truly has the best friends in the world. “I feel like I get along with everybody but I am closest to my friends Seleen Hubbert and Ben Martella. Honestly though, the list could go on forever and I’m just really lucky to have such amazing people in my life. I really do hope and pray that we will be in touch for the rest of our lives, even if we are physically separated” said Nag. After bonding and creating friendships with her fellow students here at FRHS, as well as the teachers she’s previously had and her current teachers, Nag commented, “I’m sad that it is all coming to an end so soon.” She also talked about how great of an experience high school has been for her, teaching her about herself, about life and about following the path to her personal happiness and the things she genuinely enjoys doing.
With graduation and the end of high school approaching so quickly, Nag has really begun thinking about what happens next. Without knowing where she wants to go to college for sure yet, she has put some thought into what she wants her undergraduate to be: Biology or Biomedical Engineering.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of music. I like listening to a lot of different kinds of music. I hope I can add some music related courses in college as well,” said Nag. Life is moving crazy fast for her right now, making her feel like she might not be able to keep up, but even with some pressure she is very excited about what the future holds.
“One should never forget the roots. It is very important, it is where you are tied to and it is what teaches you your values. And my family and friends are the best thing, and I know, no matter what happens, they will always be there for me” said Nag.
