FRHS begins new tobacco-free program

FRHS begins new tobacco-free program

N-O-T (Not On Tobacco) is a new program at Fossil Ridge High School that targets high school       students who abuse or are addicted to tobacco products like cigarettes or chew. This program is, however, only targeted toward students who want to quit their use of tobacco. The first meeting was for 10-12th graders Oct. 22 during B lunch. The group will meet every Tuesday at the same time, and snacks will be provided.

FRHS adopted this program after it was contacted by the American Lung Association.. Each N-O-T program has a group adviser, which is Nicole Alvarado at FRHS. N-O-T provides a safe outlet for teens who want to quit using tobacco. It’s pretty simple; there is group discussion, the adviser identifies stressors, and the user sets a date to quit. The program is totally anonymous, except for those involved in the program. FRHS is making an attempt to make the school a healthy, tobacco-free place.
