The Fossil Ridge High School Winter Percussion has started their first season since COVID-19.

“This is the first year that Fossil’s ever had an ensemble compete in the Rocky Mou

ntain Percussion Association (RMTA) circuit for our state, so this is the first year that Fossil Ridge has ever participated in competing against all of those other ensembles in the state,” band director, Neal Titus, says.

The ensemble is competing in a higher class this year, so with no other competition, the ensemble will focus on increasing their scores this season.

“There’s nobody else competing against us in our class, that means that every s

how we will get first place, but really what we’re chasing right now is a really high score,” Titus comments.

“We’re ranked and rated based on a scale of zero to one hundred, like a rubric system. And so to get scores that are like in the high 80s, and low 90s is really hard. And that’s what we’ve been trying to achieve over the past couple of weeks,” Titus adds.

The ensemble will compete in their state competition on Saturday, April 16 at Metro State University.
