Con Whaling

Whaling has always been a very serious issue all over the world. With some species of whales becoming extinct there is no doubt, if the world does not act now, then it will be too late to save them.

Yes, others might argue killing whales is no different than killing a cow or any other animal if used for meat yet whale is not a very common meal in most restaurants so why kill them?

Although in some restaurants whale meat may seem like another delicious dish to eat, some whale meat is actually heavily contaminated. Depending on the pollution level of the ocean that a whale is living in as well as their feeding behavior some whales contain a high level of mercury which is unsafe for people and can cause mercury poisoning. Because of this, research has shown that most whales are killed for sport not in fact their meat.

Whaling is illegal! This means that whales are protected by the government and if one gets caught murdering these creatures he will get fined.

Whales are such an important part of the sea. They are intelligent creatures and are considered the “humans of the sea.” According to the International Whaling Commission in Puerto Vallarta, Whales also play an important role in the ocean and by destroying them, one is destroying the social and family bonds within a whales pod as well. This means that when whales are removed from their ecosystem, the balance of the ocean is thrown off because of the role they play in their environment including their preys, as well as who preys on them are changed.

Although whales have been around for centuries, scientists have a special interest with them and seek to study more about them and their environment. Their have already been a lot of scientific literature done on these creatures over the years and are, because of that, considered one of the best studied wild animal.

Whales are extraordinary creatures that, for these reasons and many more, should be protected.
