Mr. Vaughan’s senior advisory is holding a backpack drive for the homeless starting on Feb. 17 and continuing until the week of March 3 during both A and B lunch.

The drive is aimed to assist the homeless in the Fort Collins area. These care packages will hold multiple resources. Rather than single materials being donated to a shelter, these packages will be given directly to those in need of them. By giving the items in backpacks, those who receive them can bring all of their needed materials with them instead of relying solely on help from shelters. There will students present to collect all donations.

The advisory is asking for donations of items and money for the cause. The students of this advisory stress the need for backpacks that may be worn but still have a useable zipper in order to provide a large number of packages. Other items needed include:

  • Hats
  • Gloves
  • Socks
  • Blankets
  • Toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Bars of soap
  • Combs
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Peanut butter
  • Crackers
  • Breakfast bars
  • Toilet paper

This drive is separate from the program being run by FCCLA mentioned here.
