Melissa May, Editor-in-Chief

Melissa May, a senior, is ecstatic to be starting her fourth year as an Etched in Stone staff member. She is excited to be back writing for the newspaper and is optimistic heading into the semester despite the unusual circumstances. She is thrilled to take on the role of Editor in Chief alongside Caroline Sears this year, and cannot wait to work closely with the staff and improve the newspaper.

May moved to Fort Collins before her freshman year from South Florida, where she was born and raised. She explains that “Colorado has a very obvious clash from South Florida, in lots of different ways, but [she] loves it here.” Outside of school, May loves being around her friends and family, getting outside and exploring nature, and listening to music. She also loves going to concerts, and plans to see Tyler, The Creator in Denver in the upcoming months. She explained that, after the lack of performances over the past few years, she is beyond excited to “get the opportunity to be with [her] friends and listen to the artists [they] love and look up to.”

Beyond just her hobbies, May says that she loves being with her family, and that they “always make her happy.” She lives in Timnath with her parents and three dogs, Lady, Minnie, and Buddy. Her older brother, Greg, is in his senior year at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, and May explains that she “loves when he comes home,” as he is “one of [her] best friends.” She misses her family in Florida, but explains that she keeps close contact with them and expresses her excitement for the next time she will get to see them in person.

May still holds some uncertainty about her future, but she has been accepted to her top colleges, and is ecstatic about the prospect of attending postsecondary school. She explains that she has a lot of different things she would be interested in studying in college and has yet to make definitive plans for the future, but she cannot wait to continue furthering her education and getting out of her comfort zone. For the time being, May just hopes to make the most of her final semester of high school and enjoy everything in life as it comes to her.

She expresses that the journalism room has been one of her favorite places for the past four years, and she is beyond excited to enjoy her final semester on the Etched in Stone staff.
