The Fossil Girls’ Basketball team earned their first home win of the year, defeating Mountain Range 60-24 in their first conference game of the year.

This was the Sabercats third game of the week and their second game in two days. Despite losing the previous two, Fossil bounced back and were able to put those games behind them.

“We just had to move on and keep pushing forward,” said Junior guard Kylie Ballek.

With Fossil in control for the entirety of the game, the Sabercats were able to shuffle rotations, allowing players to gain more playing time at different positions. Ballek is a great example of this as she usually plays as a wing, however she was able to run the offense as a point guard throughout this game.

“More reps can only make you better,” Ballek said.

The Sabercats have now improved their record to 5-5 and will look to keep their momentum rolling as conference play continues. The team has confidence in its abilities and their chemistry, as they look to improve above .500 once again.

“We’re all very close so it helps, we all play as a team,” Ballek said.

The Sabercats will play their second conference game of the year on the road against Monarch, the 4th overall team in 5A, on Tuesday, January 18.
