The Fossil Ridge High School Boys’ Basketball team won their 11th straight game by defeating the cross-town Fort Collins High School Lambkins 77-62.

With Collins and Fossil being within such close proximity, there is a large amount of animosity between the two schools. That close distance also allows for both fan bases to be at the games, and neither school disappointed as the stands were packed to the brim for this matchup. This exhilarating atmosphere helped motivate Fossil and invigorated the team with confidence.

Both Fossil Ridge and Fort Collins had a strong fan presence at the game.

“I love it, it’s awesome, the most fun ever. When there’s other fans that aren’t cheering for you, it ramps things up,” said Fossil junior, Nick Randall.

Randall was a force to be reckoned with during this game, scoring 18 points on 9-14 shooting. He dominated the paint adding 13 rebounds during the game, including eight on the offensive glass.

“I’m just hustling. Every shot that goes up I’m crashing the boards…I’m making my shots, give me the ball out there I’ll shoot,” Randall said.

Randall has been dominant on the glass all season, averaging a team-high 8.3 rebounds per game

Despite Fossil being ranked much higher than Collins, the Lambkins were able to hang in the game, trailing by only 5 points entering the fourth quarter. However, the Sabercats were able to take over in the fourth quarter, outscoring Fort Collins 19-7 en route to moving to 12-0 at home.

“It’s a city game, so you never know what’s going to happen. Collins played a great game but we were able to come out on top…I feel great, 16-1 baby,” Randall said.

The Sabercats will face another city team on Tuesday, February 1, in a rematch against Rocky Mountain High School.
