On April 18, the first teaser trailer for the movie Thor: Love and Thunder was revealed. Here is everything you need to know in anticipation for its release.

The plot picks up after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Leaving off at the last movie, Thor, the god of thunder, had decided that he is retired from avenging. Instead, he joins up with the Guardians of the Galaxy in an attempt for self reflection. However, it does not last long before he is pulled into adventure.

Along with the teaser trailer, Marvel also dropped the synopsis for the film:

“The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced—a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who—to Thor’s surprise—inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.”

The film is once again directed by Taika Waititi (“Thor: Ragnarok” and “Jojo Rabbit”) with production by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum.

The cast of the film is full of new and old actors alike. Hemswoth is back playing Thor, the Asgardian God of Thunder. Thompson, who played Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok is returning as well. In Avengers: Endgame, she took over the role as King of Asgard, and rules over the surviving population of Asgard that now resides on Earth.

Portman is also going to be back as Jane Foster; Thor’s ex-girlfriend. She last appeared in Thor: The Dark World, but now she is returning as the Mighty Thor. At the end of the trailer, she can be seen wielding Thor’s hammer. On top of all of these previous characters, Waititi will be portraying Korg once again.

The film is also joined by the cast of the Guardians of the Galaxy: Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Pom Klementieff. Bale will be entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the antagonist of the film, Gorr the God Butcher.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to premiere in theaters on July 8, 2022. With the trailer amassing over 27.5 million views in three days, only time will tell if it will live up to the hype.
