Dear Fossil Ridge High School,

It is Jan. 29. That means that we are 28 days into 2013. Now, I have a serious question for you? Have you kept your New Year’s resolution or have you completely given up on that? There is something about a new start that renews people and gives them a fresh outlook on life. That’s why many of us make New Year’s resolutions. Sometimes they have to do with something physical like losing weight or getting into shape, and sometimes they are more personal like mending your heart and doing a bit of “soul searching” if you will. Some people are very good about staying true to the promises that they make to themselves and some people have a hard time with it. That’s not a bad thing, but if you really do want to try to keep up with your resolution, here are some tips to get you motivated!

Write down a goal that relates to your resolution every day. Put it on a sticky-note and stick it on your mirror or somewhere where you will see it. At the end of the day, see if you met your goal. If you did, congratulate yourself. If you can achieve three goals in a row, then you know that you will be able to keep with it.

If you have a resolution to get into shape or lose weight find a friend or family member to work out with. If you just can’t get off the couch to get to the gym by yourself, you now have someone to go with you. This should motivate you because you know that you are not alone on your journey to a better you.

Don’t say, “Oh, there is always next year,” if you break your resolution early. You never know what can happen in a year, and no one ever should live with regrets. Even if you struggled at the beginning of the year to keep your promises, you can still fulfill your resolution. Just start a little bit later in the year. You can still finish it. Let’s say you start your resolution on Feb. 1. you still have until Feb.1 of 2014 to complete it!

The only person in your way of achieving your goals is yourself. You should believe in yourself and know that you can achieve things that no one else can.

Good luck and happy New Year!

Sincerely,
