Three FRHS speech and debate students to compete at state

Three Speech and Debate students at Fossil Ridge High School qualified for state: senior Jason Petty, junior Jamie Johar, and freshman Grace Feng.

State is on March 22 and 23 in Highlands Ranch. “It’s basically a two day tournament,” said Petty. “You debate five times and then if you do well you keep going and going until you lose.” To qualify for state students had to win three out of their four rounds at regionals.

Johar took fifth in the Original Oratory out of 32 other varsity students. She also took third place earlier in the 2013 year at a tournament in Cheyenne, Wyo. out of 90 students. Feng placed sixth at the Rocky Mountain Lobo Howl out of 41 other students. Petty was awarded an outstanding speaker and was a finalist for the Rocky Mountain North National Forensics League. He also placed fourth at the Fairview Fling Tournament.
