On Oct. 5 the Speech and Debate team partook in their first tournament. This week was momentous in the fact that each student placed during their events. freshmen Ciera Dykstra and Lauren Fessler took 3rd out of 14 in Public Forum winning two out of three rounds. Freshman Mandarin Foster took 4th place out of 20 in Lincoln Douglas winning two out of three rounds. Freshman Aidan Dykstal took first place out of 20 in Lincoln Douglas winning all three rounds. Sophomore XuSong Ho is a varsity member and attended as a judge and coach. These students, although novices now, will all be entering the varsity season in November.

Fessler and Dykstra competed in middle school and are continuing into high school. Ho was a member last year and is returning as a varsity member and helping coach the new members. Dykstal won first place in his meet and this was his first meet ever in speech and debate.

For the start of the year the Speech and Debate team has a strong start and is geared up for the rest of the season.
