Fossil Ridge hosted the Gojo Sports Tipoff Classic over the weekend, and the team made it all the way to the championship game against Denver East. East is known for their successful basketball program, and Fossil kept up with them throughout the whole game.

The tournament began last Wednesday, including Fossil Ridge, Rocky Mountain, Thornton, Denver East, Montbello, Poudre, Ponderosa, Colorado Academy, and Dakota Ridge.

Fossil’s first match up against Thornton was the highest scoring game of the whole tournament, with an ending score of 117-71. As well as being the team’s highest scoring game of the tournament, it broke a record for the highest scoring game in the programs history.

The high scoring game was led by standout guard, Braxton Bertolette, who had 29 points in the first half alone. While excelling on offense, the Sabercat’s defense fell apart in the second half allowing Thornton’s unorganized offense put up some points on the board.

“I think we could taken the game. We didn’t start off as strong as we needed to,” said senior Cole Schilling. “As the game picked up we starting rolling.I think we showed that we can be serious contenders this season.”

Fossil will start regular season play this week.
