Challenge your mind with Fossil Ridge chess

A new club is coming to Fossil Ridge High School— chess! The club adviser will be Mrs. Rachel Eaton.  The club will meet every Thursday starting Oct. 18 during A lunch for freshmen and B lunch for upperclassmen in W103. “All levels are welcome,” said Mrs. Eaton. “You don’t have to know how to play.”

Students will learn strategies and how to play the game.  Along with Mrs. Eaton, someone who teaches chess as a profession will come to demonstrate a strategy each week.  After students learn a new strategy they will have the rest of the meeting to practice.

In addition to playing for fun, students will have the opportunity to compete in four tournaments. “We can’t wait to throw our hat into the ring,” Eaton said. “Collins has a team so we might even be competing against them.”
