Triple threat- life as a triplet

Austin, Lindsey, and Zack Feuer as babiesHigh school seniors Austin, Lindsey, and Zack Feuer are more than your typical siblings. Not only do they share the same birthday, age, and last name, but they also shared a womb. As triplets, life for them has been both very different and similar to that of a household without multiples.

“It’s like having your own set of built in best friends,” Lindsey Feuer said. “I couldn’t imagine what my life would be like without my brothers.” The Feuers were born as fraternal triplets on April 27th, 1997 and like most triplets, they were born premature. Their mother took fertility medicine, but all three were conceived naturally in the womb. Or, as Zack Feuer puts it, “the stork brought us.”

According to statistics, one in every 651 babies is born a triplet, and triplet births are on the rise all around the world. Also, many triplets are born premature and underweight, as was the case with the Feuers. They all weighed about three pounds, and arrived before their actual due date. Zack claims he was the cutest baby. Lindsey was the chubbiest. The Feuer triplets on Halloween

From an early age, the Feuers shared everything, including various matching outfits. Austin and Zack even shared a room while Lindsey had her own. Lindsey was more of a tomboy when she was younger, and she says its probably due to the fact that she was the only girl with two brothers. However, despite sharing a lot, they also had some things that were unique to each of them.

“We each had own our special color,” Austin said. “I was blue, Zack was red, and Lindsey was yellow or pink.” Since they weren’t born identical, it was easier to tell them apart, but the colors still helped.

Being the same age and growing up together allowed the three of them to create tight bonds with one another. Their parents loved raising triplets, even if was hard at some points. The problem with triplets is you have pay three times the amount for everything, including college, which all three Feuers will be attending next year.

“Our mom loved [having triplets]. We have a little brother too [Luke] who always gets the most attention out of all of us,” Lindsey said. Even though they’ve grown up as triplets, none of the Feuers define themselves by it. Lindsey likes to joke that she’s the best triplet, and Zack claims he’s the actual best triplet. Overall though, all three agree they don’t ever really think about being triplets or notice the difference.

“I’m a human being, the word triplet doesn’t define me or my siblings. We’re individual, not just three peas in one pod,” Austin Feuer said. Although all three of them are outgoing, smart, and friendly, each Feuer developed a different personality from the other two.

The Feuer Triplets at ChristmasZack Feuer describes himself as someone who loves math and science, but is also heavily involved in sports. Zack is less artsy then his brother and sister, and holds different political beliefs then his siblings. As for Austin, he is the only light haired and fair skinned triplet.  He has a passion for theater and enjoys English the most.

“I’m the in between triplet between my brothers,” Lindsey said. “I love theater and the arts like Austin, but I also like sports like Zack.” Lindsey also enjoys music and being with her friends.

As for similarities, all three kids love to travel, are involved in student council, and are very social. The Feuers believe they get their leadership tendencies from their mother, who they say is a ‘good example of a leader’ and always ‘teaches the kids to stand up for themselves and be passionate about what they want to change.’’

“All three of us are different, but we build off our successes and it all meshes together well in the end,” Lindsey Feuer said.

“It helps that we’re all the same age and experiencing everything at the same time. I think that keeps our bond strongest,” Austin Feuer said. The triplets all get along well with one another, and hope their strong relationships will continue on into the future. And speaking of the future, each triplet has their own plan for what they want to do after high school.

“I want to become a surgeon,” Zack said. “I’m naturally leaning towards that after college.” Eventually, Zack also hopes to work for NASA. As for family life, Zack hasn’t decided whether or not he wants kids, but he does think marriage is a possibility.

Lindsey, on the other hand, wants to either adopt or have her own biological children someday. “Thankfully the chance of me having triplets later in life isn’t hereditary, so hopefully I won’t have to worry about having multiple babies at once,” Lindsey said. She also hopes to become a lawyer after college, and has a special interest in criminal law and homicide investigations.

Last but not least, Austin Feuer wants to go to college with a double major in Political Science and English, while participating in theater on the side. He hopes to go somewhere on the East Coast for college, while Lindsey and Zack are looking to stay a tad bit closer to home.

Overall, the Feuer triplets are no different than average siblings, they just happen to share a few more things that usual. They plan to maintain their strong relationships past high school, and they all hope to see each other achieve their dreams.Austin, Lindsey, and Zack Feuer today

They’re good friends, and even stronger siblings. However, just like typical siblings they love to joke with and tease one another. For example, when asked which triplet brother was her favorite, Lindsey joked that it wasn’t either of them.

“My cat’s my favorite out of all of us,” Lindsey said.
