After a long season of hard work, Fossil Ridge’s Knowledge Bowl took home second place at the 5A state competition held at UCCS (University of Colorado Colorado Springs) last week.

Grand Junction took the first place title for 5A Colorado high schools, with Fossil in coming up behind them in a close second. The competition was tough, and it came down to one round taking the Sabercats from the first place position.

Yet despite falling short at state, the team saw many great victories this season: taking first in the Northern Colorado Megaminds competition, first in the Northern Colorado 5A schools competition, and first place in the Poudre School District Meet for all PSD schools. They even won the Rocky Mountain PBS Matchwits, a televised event that featured their competition firsthand.

Head Coach and Fossil Ridge math teacher, Martha Cranor, comments that her favorite part of this year’s Knowledge Bowl team has been watching the team come together as one, putting all of their heads together to help bring the team to victory. Its a group of people committed to bettering the team as one unit instead of just themselves as individuals.
