Fossil Ridge High School defeated their cross-town rival the Fort Collins High School Lambkins 14-6 on Friday night. The Sabercats showed seemingly impossible amounts of progress following their loss against Castle View High School. Fossil looked like a powerhouse team, making incredible plays throughout the entire game to ensure a victory and bring home the Harmony Cup.

The first quarter was uneventful, as no points were scored on either team. Fossils coaching staff quickly realized a flaw within the Lambkin’s defensive line and relentlessly ran the ball straight through the center of the field. Andy Sherrill, the starting running back, had several amazing drives that boosted the team’s confidence. Five minutes into the second quarter, senior, Niles Tilley caught a pass in the end zone, followed by an extra point from Shjon Mosser. Drive after drive, Fossil’s dedication and hard work could be seen from miles away. With two minutes left in the half, Ryan Ressler intercepted the ball and returned it for another touchdown. The half ended with Fossil leading 14-0 over Collins.

While the first half was primarily about the offense, the defense radiated dominance. Holding a high scoring offense to only six points is a nearly impossible task, but the Sabercats did it with ease. The defense fought relentlessly the entire half. The Lambkins had a couple of scoring opportunities, but only one was successful. Overall, the defense was the reason for the victory over the Lambkins.

The amazing Friday Night Lights games showcased the strength and potential of the team for the rest of the season. It was an important win not only for team confidence but for bragging rights as the team brought home the Harmony Cup.
